Our promise
Homepage Tab is built around a simple principle: your data belongs to you, and stays on your device.
We collect the minimum amount of information required to make the product better, never sell it, and never use it to build a profile of you.
What we store locally (on your device only)
- Your shortcut groups, sticky notes, countdown events, and other widget data
- Your wallpaper preferences and uploaded custom wallpapers
- Your appearance settings (dark mode, skin, layout)
- A small cache of recently viewed plugins
All of this is stored in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device.
What we send to our servers
With your browser's permission, Homepage Tab sends anonymous, aggregated usage events to our analytics endpoint. These events help us understand which features are useful and where we should focus.
A typical event includes:
- The event name (e.g.
widget_used) - An anonymous session id (rotated regularly, never tied to your identity)
- The browser type and version (e.g. "Chrome 120 on macOS")
- The page locale and time zone
We never collect:
- Your name, email, phone, or any account identifier
- Your IP address (it is dropped at the edge)
- The content of your shortcuts, notes, or any text you type
- Your browsing history outside of Homepage Tab
Permissions explained
bookmarks— used only to display your bookmarks inside the new tab page. We never read or upload your bookmark contents.history— used only locally to suggest recent sites in the shortcut picker. We never upload your browsing history.host_permissions— used to call public APIs for weather, wallpapers, and to send the anonymous events described above.
Third-party services we call
- Bing Image of the Day (wallpapers): public image API
- Open-Meteo (weather): public weather API
- Bing / Baidu / Google search: only when you submit a search
- Our own analytics endpoint at
https://api.atseeker.com/analytics/v1/track(anonymous events only)
Removing your data
You can clear all locally stored data by uninstalling the extension. There is nothing on our servers tied to you that we could remove on request, because we never collected anything that identifies you in the first place.
